Together with the sister company Hyster, Yale managed to lead the market, all around the world. Both brands have provided for various industries and business fleet managements and product support. They produce varieties of products including the latest range called UTILEV forklift trucks that accommodates for the basic industrial applications. Today, Yale is well-positioned to deliver the best products and services to its clientele. They are known for their wide range of products including Yale forklift products with capacities that range from 2,000 to 36,000 lbs. of lifting capacity. The company's forklift products are distributed by more than 150 dealers, employing more than 5,000 workers. All equipment is manufactured in the company's 12 manufacturing facilities.

Yale Forklift History

Yale is one of the earliest players in the forklift and construction equipment industry. In 1840, the company was founded by Linus Yale Sr. It initially introduced secured and tough locks to be used in banks. By 1875, they expanded their portfolio by adding materials handling equipment. Accordingly, Yale became the largest employer in the Stamford area. Linus Yale had joined hands with Henry Towne and the brand name changed to Yale &Towne. The first significant achievement of Yale & Towne was the purchase of C.W Hunt Co. of Staten Island, NY, that had produced the first ever battery powered low lift platform truck in 1919. Yale & Towne celebrated an important year in 1923 when they manufactured their first forklift truck that was made available in six models: Narrow High Platform Truck, Wide High Platform Truck, General Utility Truck, Elevating Platform Truck, Low Platform Truck and the Three Wheel Tractor Truck.

In 1934, the company took off with the establishment of its first ever manufacturing facility abroad, in Waynesfield, England. Another partnership with KiichiHardacompany made them sell their lift trucks in Japan. By 1950, the company expanded its product line by offering various fuel powered lift trucks and introduced the first fluid coupling transmission drive axle. Additionally, they introduced gas, LP gas and diesel-powered lift trucks. Electric-powered trucks were added to the company's portfolio in 1974, when Yale & Towne opened their production plant in Greenville, NC.
By 1985, it was the time of bigger mergers; as company's growing profile caught the attention of acclaimed giants, North American Coal bought majority shares in Yale. Resultantly, NACCO industries came into being as a holding company and new dimensions of progress were explored. NACCO industries further created NACCO Materials Handling Group (NHMG) where both the sister companies, Yale and Hyster, got integrated as one company. NHMG rolled out a new line of forklift trucks for warehouse business by the year 1996, and grew its sales to Europe, Middle East and African continent. Year 2004 brought the good news of much needed international quality certification ISO 9001:2000 to all the products of NHMG worldwide. In the following year, both Yale and Hyster brands introduced the all new internal combustion engine series of Forklift trucks with a host of modern and innovative features. The success story kept going on, NHMG introduced Very Narrow Aisle trucks in 2006 and Electric counter balance range of forklifts in 2009. Finally in 2012,Hyster-Yale Materials Handling Inc. was formed as an independent entity, divorced from NACCO industries.
