 Caterpillar Forklift Torque Converter

The Caterpillar Forklift Torque Converter is in the forklift transmission system. This mechanical part takes the rotational power generated by the engine to the transmission. A torque converter is a fluid coupling, which makes the engine spin less or more independent from the transmission. This is experienced when automatic transmission forklift has to stop close to an obstacle.

There are three vital parts in a caterpillar torque converter including pump, turbine and stator. The turbine is the spinning part which spins at a similar rate of the engine rotation. The stator of forklift torque converter is located at the center. It reverses the hydraulic fluid movement of the turbine, before again hitting the pump. If the fluid hits the pump, the engine slows down, wasting the power. When the forklift is not moving, the turbine slows down because of less fluid entering.

There are other couplings for usage, but the torque converter is better in performance. But, there is a mechanical problem as there is a chance of power loss when the turbine and the stator do not rotate at the same rate. The most common indication of a defective torque converter is a feeling of a tiny shake when forklift truck is at a higher speed. To ensure that the shudder is due to the malfunction of the torque converter, brake the pedal tightly pressing with increasing accelerator. Halting in shudder because of this means the torque converter malfunction.

If these results indicate that there is a faulty torque converter, it should be repaired or replaced immediately. Solid Lift Parts Inc. has all parts of the caterpillar forklift torque converter at reasonable costs for all models of forklifts. So, contact with your parts specialist today!
