CLARK FORKLIFT HAND BRAKE

Clark Forklift Hand Brake, widely termed as the secondary safety braking mechanism which accomplishes the function of bypassing the primary hydraulic braking system in case of its failure. These are alternatively known as e-brakes, emergency brakes or parking brakes. There are four of its kind- stick lever, found on the instrument panel of the old trucks; center lever, placed along the driving seat; pedal brake and the electric push button in the console.  

A mechanical lever, attached to the existing disc or drum brakes of the forklift, bypasses the normal hydraulic braking system and employs the mechanism. As soon as the hand brakes are applied, the lever pushes the corkscrew to be engaged. The brake cable passes through an equalizer increasing the pulling force when emergency brakes are stretched out. The cable is split into two, hence the force is also divided equally across the two cables joining with rear wheels. Therefore, the cable arrives the brake shoes which then enact the braking system immediately.

Hand brakes should be applied only when the forklift is parked or it is done with its operation. It acts handy while going up or down a sloppy place. When needed, hand brakes should be pulled immediately. But it shouldn’t be pulled until the truck fully stops.

Sometimes the brakes get loose when the hand brake lever is pulled up. Then, if it doesn’t work properly, the reason may be stretched and it should undergo some adjustments.
