 Clark Forklift Transmission

Clark Forklift Transmission is a major part of the forklift that controls the movement of the machine. It connects the engine and the wheel. Usually, it is connected by a flywheel to the engine crankshaft. When the engine RPM changes, Clark forklift transmission maintains the semblance between the wheel and engine rotation. Both in manual and automatic, the main function of a Clark Forklift Transmission is to allow the engine to operate at a low speed while proving a huge range of output speeds.

The manual transmission system is a backdated type, while the automatic transmission system can be operated simply and securely. Because of its reliability, this system is being used in most of the modern vehicles. These transmission systems are constructed of three basic components:

  • Torque converter
  • Planetary gear set
  • Computer sensor

The planetary gear set allows the forklift to change gears and lets it move back and forth, the torque converter which is an alternative to the clutch allows the engine to turn more minimizing reliance on the transmission. Computer sensor observes engine load, forklift speed, pedal position to operate the gear shifting process.

Clark forklift transmission can malfunction because of continuous use and overload. Some indications are there to understand that the system needs reparation or replacement.

  • In manual transmission forklifts, if the gear becomes “sticky”, it can happen because of low amount of transmission fluids, shift cable, weakness of clutch linkage or incorrect transmission fluid.
  • Burning smell or smoke symbolizes that there is an overheating issue in the transmission. May be the transmission fluid is not correct, leaking or is filth and requires to be replaced.
  • If there is a noise while the forklift is in neutral position, the parts may be worn down and require replacement.
