 Forklift Camshaft Crankshaft

The Forklift Camshaft and Crankshaft are two crucial components within the engine that enables the engine’s functions of converting force from internal combustion to the movement of the forklift. A camshaft is connected to the cam follower, which works with the cam. The cam has a complex and extremely precise shape that the cam follower follows in wave like motions. Cam follower moves forwards and backwards twice for every camshaft rotation. On the other hand, crankshaft always move circular with the attached rods moving in a smooth wave-like motion. The crankshaft rotation allows the rod to go back once for every rotation. The camshaft and crankshaft work harmoniously to provide the force required for the forklift to move.

A camshaft consists of series of cams which are cylindrical metal pieces that fits around it. As the camshaft rotates, the cams moves as well. Poppet valve is located directly on top of the cam. It is lifted up and down when the lobes of the cam contacts the valve. The exhaust and intake valves are then opened and closed according to the rotations of the camshaft. Camshaft and crankshaft are then connected by a timing belt. When the crankshaft rotates, it indirectly cause the camshaft to spin via the belt, which then makes the pistons move up and down. The amount of fuel that is injected and ejected out of the cylinders are controlled by the camshaft arrangement.

The circular motion of the wheels is created by the piston force, which is converted by the crankshaft. When there is internal combustion, the pistons move up and down inside of the cylinders, making the crankshaft turn. The cycle repeats itself and the crankshaft regulates the movement of the pistons. A flywheel is attached to the crankshaft, which smooth out the piston’s jerky movement. When the crank shaft rotates, the flywheel is turned in a circular motion.

Evidently, camshafts and crankshafts consists of number of parts in its make-ups. Extended use of the forklift leads to wear of these parts. As they are the internal components of the engine, they are subjected to extreme heat and rapid movement of various components. When the engine is having issues, such as the wheels not turning properly, visible smoke, and burning smell, it should be check immediately by a professional mechanic.

If the camshaft or crankshaft are the problematic parts, they are likely irreparable and will need to be replaced immediately. Solid Lift Parts Inc. provide a large selection of camshaft and crankshaft parts for all makes and models of forklifts. Contact your parts specialists today to find you the exact camshaft or crankshaft required for your forklift!
