Forklift Starters are basically motors that rotate the internal combustion engine. These motors can be of different types such as hydraulic, electric or even pneumatic. Firstly, the current that comes from starter battery will be delivered to the solenoid & then the solenoid will force the lever to push the drive pinion. The pinion connects itself with the starter ring gear of the engine’s flywheel by these actions. Starters are found to be largely used in gasoline & diesel powered engines. In diesel engines, hydraulic starters are jumpstarted by hydraulic motors.

Like any other forklift parts, starters also have some common problems. Regular maintenance & proper observations prevent starters from such obstacles. You can find out a faulty starter with a voltmeter because starters won’t operate correctly without the actual voltage supply. To check the voltage you will need to turn off the forklift & then connect the voltmeter with the battery. The actual voltage ranges between 12.4 to 12.6 volts.
