 Yale - Forklift Steering Axle

The Yale Forklift steering axle is an important component of the forklift. It helps keep the vehicle on the right path. Sometimes steering can be difficult and hard, but Yale offers the best steering axles that will allow for a smooth operation of the forklift.

The steering system consists of a set of components and subassemblies that transmit the steering wheel to the two steering wheels. The main component that makes it possible to transmit and amplify steering wheel power is the steering axle. The technology used by the steering axles has evolved over time. Thus, we have:

  • Mechanical steering systems - the steering axle uses strictly mechanical components to transmit the steering wheel steering
  • Hydraulic steering systems - The steering axle is "helped" by a hydraulic pump that makes it easier to steer the steering wheel
  • Electro-hydraulic steering systems - The steering axle automatically adjusts the hydraulic pressure according to the travel speed, thus maximizing maneuverability under all conditions
  • Electronically assisted steering systems - the steering axle is assisted by an electric motor instead of a hydraulic system. This type of assistance can also work with the engine off and is electronically controlled by a computer.

The most popular types of steering axle are hydraulic and electro-hydraulic and are considered by some to be the most reliable.

Under normal conditions of use, the steering system and, in particular, the steering axle should not require repairs or replacement over the lifetime of the vehicle. But there are, in addition to manufacturing errors, various uses of machines that lead to premature wear:

What behaviors lead to premature damage to the steering axle:

  • Excessive traffic on rough or uneven roads
  • Strong shocks: edges, canals, pits, etc.
  • Excessive maneuvering the steering wheel standing still
  • Displacement without hydraulic fluid in the system (this is checked periodically)
  • Not verifying the hoses, bellows, and seals

Lack of maintenance and improper use leads to the appearance of symptoms that may even lead to complete steering axle failure if ignored and not repaired in time.
