Forklift Mufflers are commonly found on internal combustion engine exhaust systems. The main function of a muffler is to reduce noise pollution and sound pressure that is emitted through combustions inside of the engine.
Varieties of muffler designs are available in multiple makes and models. The mechanical design of mufflers are the same throughout; it has a series of tubes or holes inside it. These tubes or holes are designed to work as instruments reflecting the sounds that are produced by the forklift truck. Essentially, the reflecting of the sounds results in the overlapping of reversed frequencies, leading to cancellation of sounds.
The muffler is composed of four major parts: outlet, perforations, resonator chamber and the inlet. The usual arrangement is the gases and the sound waves will pass through the center tube. Once inside, sound emitted will bounce back and will be reflected inside the muffler and through this process the noise will be cancelled and reduced. There are several exhaust system with different design and structures: spiral baffle muffler, vector muffler, and aero turbine muffler.
Spiral Baffle muffler – Commonly used in regular size gasoline and LGP trucks and vehicles.
Vector Muffler – Widely utilized by larger diesel powered engines, mainly trucks and heavy construction machines.
Aero Turbine muffler – Efficient in drawing out fumes from combustion chambers.
