Terex History
Terex Corporation has gone through a series of evolutions in its long standing career. Terex owns a bit complicated history in contrast with other big names in the industry. It is their history, which lead them to the name “Terex” and its further evolution thereafter. In 1933, the future ‘to be’ Terex company emerged as “Euclid Company” was founded by Armington brothers. The Euclid Company showed its prowess in designing and building Haul trucks and was soon a well-known producer of haul trucks. The growing success of the company did not escape the attention of General Motors, and in 1953, General Motors formally purchased Euclid. The company was later e-branded as GM’s Euclid Division and started with the production of equipment including off-highway dump trucks, which eventually comprised half the nation’s resource of highway dump trucks.
One of the leading companies in the industrial sector today is the Terex Corporation. This reputation did not come through easy and overnight. It is a reputation gained from coming to terms with the market competition, the challenges and obstacles in innovation and the market fluctuations that may put the company bankrupt. Over the years, Terex Corporation has maintained its role as a leading global manufacturer of lifts and material transport products that maximize returns for the business owners and project managers. The brands that consist of the Terex industries would be Terex, Genie, Demag, and Powerscreen.
In the many years that Terex has been serving the international market, it has been able to offer a myriad set of products, solutions, and innovation for construction, infrastructure, shipping, transportation, refinery, energy transport and other utilities that involve mining and quarrying. All these areas have been served by many service providers, but many of them have not been a match.
The dominance of these trucks in the market, however, gave birth to an unexpected negative consequence for General motors, when it faced an anti-trust suit filed by the US Department of Justice. This development prompted the company to stop the production of these trucks for four years and pushed for the divestment of the Euclid business. In 1970, the company formally assumed the name Terex, taken from ‘terra’ (earth) and ‘rex’ (king). Starting in 1970s, they focused on producing heavy trucks including crawlers, front-end loaders and skrapers. During the era of its evolution and maturation, the Terex division of General Motors Company introduced few of the most notable heavy construction equipment of its time, including the first off road hauler truck and the world’s first largest truck named as Terex 33-19 “Titan”. These were the achievements of GM’s Terex division until 1970s. Despite note able progress by Terex Company, its sailing through in the industry remained subjected to economic storms. The company was sold by GM to IBH holdings in 1981, but IBH holdings collapsed in global recession and GM bought Terex back and organized it as Terex equipment company based in Scotland and Terex USA a distributor of Terex products in West Hampshire. By the 1980s, after a series of recessions, Terex was once again controlled by General Motors.
A fresh corporate operations group was introduced by Terex in 2005 to achieve the goal of implementing and developing out-class facility in supply chain management, worldwide buying and logistics. Traditionally, Terex supply chain assessment has been created building by building which offered restricted opportunity to influence Terex’s size. Presently, the major focus of Terex is on increasing efficiency with the suppliers located on the company’s worldwide buying resources and power. Terex had now increased the size and expanded the scope of its essence of businesses, by using both the development of the latest products and acquisitions, to have an enhanced market share.
In the following years, Terex engaged in a series of acquisitions of small and large companies. One important acquisition was Genie; a company known for its aerial lift platforms. In 2003-2004, they also acquired TATRA. Terex embraced huge successes in the following the years, and in 2007 Terex was declared number 4 best performing company by Baron’s 500 survey and was ranked 314th on the Fortune 500 list and the success story kept telling its un-daunting tale for the years to come.
Terex Delivers Value for Global Market

This mission is reflected in their comprehensive catalog, which include materials handling machines and equipment, cranes, off-highway trucks, light towers and aerial work platforms.

Investor Information
What investors should know about Terex Corporation today is the fact that Terex has well been an often attractive source of investments from various global manufacturers and material processing firms. Investors who want to be associated with a leading brand that delivers lifecycle solutions that improve returns of businesses can get a lot of value from their investments in Terex. It’s fascinating to consider, too, that Terex has worked with Aerial Work Platforms and Materials Processing even to this date considering that the industry is facing a lot of competition. This just indicates the level of investor confidence it has gained over the years.
Aerial Work Platforms
The Aerial Work Platforms under Terex Corporation are integrated or in partnership with Genie, the innovation that was purchased by and in partnership with Terex when both companies realized they both had shared the same business values. The products then developed by the partnership gave birth to vertical mast lifts and telehandlers that had options and accessories that would not be found in its competition. Such products still up to this date continue to increase business owners’ productivity and the ease of the life of their operators.
Cranes
Terex would not also be known as a complete brand without considering its powerful line of cranes, giving them the mark that they’re everything that business owners need. With the level of low margins and high overhead improvements that these cranes offer to companies, the endless competition Terex faces would still be manageable. Companies could not probably find a better, more harder-working and reliably efficient brand of cranes out there that could compete with what Terex cranes could provide everywhere.
Under the Demag sub-brand of Terex, its terrain cranes have continued to offer superior design and engineering to the companies that give their trust to the brand. Exceptional performance can even be a synonym already of Terex cranes, if only for the fact that its crane's maneuverability is second to none. They can be used anywhere, under harshest conditions and wherever there’s a demanding job to do efficiently without delays.
